Texas Water Development Board approves $42 million to the City of Cleburne (Johnson County) for wastewater system improvements

AUSTIN – (June 24, 2019) – The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) today approved by resolution financial assistance in the amount of $42 million, consisting of a $41 million loan and $1 million in loan forgiveness, from the Clean Water State Revolving Fund to the City of Cleburne (Johnson County). The City will use the assistance to finance planning, acquisition, design, and construction costs associated with wastewater system improvements.

In addition to the loan forgiveness, the City could save approximately $8.4 million by using the Clean Water State Revolving Fund.

With the assistance approved today, the City will increase the wastewater treatment facility's overcall capacity and reuse capacity for both indirect potable reuse and direct nonpotable reuse. The project also includes construction of a new pump station and pipeline. The improvements aim to help the City meet future water supply demands.

The TWDB is the state agency charged with collecting and disseminating water-related data, assisting with regional planning, and preparing the state water plan for the development of the state's water resources. The TWDB administers cost-effective financial assistance programs for the construction of water supply, wastewater treatment, flood control, and agricultural water conservation projects.
